Oakes Class and parkin class
Mrs Jarvis/Mrs Widdowson (Oakes) and Mr Jones (Parkin)
TAs - Mrs Patrick, Mrs Walker, Miss Dakin, Miss Robinson and Miss Vardy.
We would like to welcome all of your children into year 4 and hope that they have a fantastic year of learning and education. We hope they enjoy each and every day and have lots of positive experiences and memories that they will remember for a lifetime.
It is really important that the children start to organise themselves (with your help of course) by bringing in PE kits and Forest School gear ready for lessons. These lessons will take place on Wednesday and Thursdays and it's vital that they are prepared and able to take part. It is also important that the children have their reading books and reading records in school daily and their new CGP homework books completed. These will be marked together every Monday. We will alternate weekly between the English and Maths books but will make sure the children know in class which section to complete.
A short reminder that home/school reading diaries will be checked frequently. The children should be completing an activity from their book each week and reading aloud to an adult at home at least three times a week.
In addition to reading at home, please make use of both TTRockstars (times tables) and Numbots (number bonds).
There will be weekly spelling activities and a spelling rule for your child to learn. Spelling tests will be every Monday. Please use Spelling Frame for resources and games to practise weekly spellings. This is also where you will find their spelling list for the upcoming week. All children have been given their new usernames and passwords for all of these resources.
Our units of learning will focus on 'Rivers' this term.
We will be focusing on geography and, as always, on sentence construction in our writing. We shall be looking at local rivers, major rivers of the world and the importance of water in our world.
Our reading comprehension will have a focus on our river learning and we will be working on our inferential reading skills - thinking like a detective, using our background knowledge and spotting breakdowns in meaning.
Swimming is on hold at the moment but we will let you know further details when we know.
Please find details of home learning below
