Hello everyone. We hope you are all safe and well. Welcome back after a short break to your new week of learning. This week we will be having meetings with parents online to discuss your progress and learning so far this year. Your parents will have already had an appointment time with your teacher and you are welcome to join them to hear how your teacher thinks you are doing.
How are you getting on with Google Classroom? Are you confident in how to use it? If you need any help let us know on the stream. Here are your meets and times for this week.
Monday 22nd | Welcome to the week ahead. A chance to say 'Hello!' and share this week's learning. |
Please choose one of these times - 8.40, 9.20, 10.00 |
Tuesday 23rd | Drop-in session. You're welcome to join us online. | 11.00 |
Wednesday 24th | Drop-in session. You're welcome to join us online. | 2.30 |
Thursday 25th | Drop-in session. You're welcome to join us online. | 11.00 |
Friday 26th | Celebrate success and the launch of the Whole school writing challenge | 8.40, 9.20, 10.00 |
This week we would also like you to start on Spring worksheet 1 on both of your CGP homework books. During the Meets we will be looking at the answers and any questions you may have from your work.
We love to see the work you have been producing at home. If possible, please ask your parents if they could send copies of some of your best work to us either by e-mail or by Twitter. Thank you to all of the children who have sent in work to us so far. We're missing you all very much. Take care and stay safe.
Monday 22nd february
Please stop by school to collect your new Home Learning Pack. Inside you will find a new book to read and work booklet, a writing booklet for writing lessons, plus a new handwriting pen and a new whiteboard pen. Your child will need these for their learning over the next two weeks.
Thank you!
Spelling Frame - Complete a quiz on your new spellings this week and play the games for between 10 to 30 minutes. Take a break if you need to. Focus on the new rule. What do all the words have in common? Take the opportunity to reflect back and look at a range of spellings over the previous term. Are you using these words in your writing wherever possible and when they fit? They give you an idea of the type of words we will be looking to see in your work. Choose three of your spellings that could fit into this week's whole school writing.
Maths
TTRockstars - complete at least one soundcheck and one studio game and then spend another 10-15 minutes improving your times tables. Revise your times table of the week. It's the 7s this week.
English - Writing
Our new writing unit is going to be all about goblins, with different activities for you to enjoy. You will be able to begin this once you have collected your new Home Learning pack.
Today we would like you to use your background knowledge, or find out about goblins, and create a little poster to show what you know, or what you have found out.
Topic
We are starting a new term with a new project.
Our project is all about the area where we live - Riddings and Derbyshire. Over the next term we will be asking lots of questions and inviting you to help boost your knowledge by learning all about our history that allows us to be where we are today. You may wish to speak to someone at home who can help you and pass on information about the local area and its history to help find out even more.
Today we will look at where Riddings and Derbyshire is in the world. With your parent's consent you may be allowed to search on Google Earth to help you find Derbyshire and Riddings. Check with an adult first.
Read your school reading book or a book of your choice from home. Quiz on it once finished.
Lexia - 15 minutes.
Today is World Thinking Day. A day when people who belong to an organisation think carefully about what it means to be part of that organisation. In 2021 the aim is to bring Girl Guides and Scouts from all across the world to think about peace - asking them to Stand Strong, Stand Up and Stand Together.

Topic - Riddings & Derbyshire
After finding out all about where Riddings and Derbyshire are, we now invite you to take part in the next lesson. When we learn about a place it is always important to find out about its history. Here we ask you to read and copy one paragraph to find out about the village of Riddings. You may wish to find out more and write your own paragraph telling us all about the history. You might need the expertise of someone at home to help you. We'd love to see what you found out. As well as this we have some map work for you to do. It based on symbols and signs on maps.
