Spring Term 2024
Welcome back to the first term of Year 5. We hope you have enjoyed the summer break and are ready for all of the exciting things we have to learn this term.
This half term our main topic will be Rumble in the Rainforest where we get to look closely at the Amazon Rainforest. We will be investigating the different layers of the rainforest and the different creatures that call it home. Our writing this half term will write a set of instructions on how to survive a rainforest adventure. We will also begin our new class reader, 'The Explorer'.
In English, we will be focussing on sentence structures, fronted adverbials and ensuring that spellings are embedded from previous year groups. In Maths, we will be focussing fractions, decimals and percentages.
Exciting things to look forward to:
Creating a film in Computing
Using the Micro:Bits
Wildlife Workshop
Our Rainforest unit
Wider Curriculum
PE
Our PE days are Monday and Tuesday. Please arrive to school in your PE kit. This does not need to be changed during the day. Please can we emphasise that PE kit should be plain black joggers/shorts/ hoodies without any logos.
We will also be continuing our work on Latin and continuing to look at word class and sentence order. We have been really impressed by the enthusiasm so far!
In RE, we will be looking at places of worship, religious art and charities supported by religion. We will be looking at how people from different faiths express their beliefs in these ways.
In Computing, we begin our film making and coding unit. This will see us plan, film and edit a short video. Excitingly, the coding units uses the brand new Micro:Bits which we are very excited to use! Please ask us about this, you will be amazed how much we know!
